Christmas Cookie Platter

Our “Christmas Around the World Through Cookies” project inspired by living in the multi-cultural city that New York City is and from years of international travel now includes thirty different cookies representing the Christmas baking tradition from all over the world.  A nice platter of these cookies along with the guide chart from the back of every one pound box makes a fun and delicious conversation piece for any holiday get together.

In addition to all of the traditional holiday cookies we offer a variety of delicious artfully decorated butter cookies cut out in the shapes of the traditional symbols of the Hanukkah holiday.   A tasty Israeli nut cookie made with honey and walnuts that has a texture similar to a chewy macaroon is part of the international cookie variety and may be enjoyed as part of the Hanukkah tradition as well.

For Kwanzaa we make the peanut filled KuliKuli cookie from Nigeria dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with toasted peanuts.

Christmas cookies with a cup of espresso

Our spicy “Holiday Family Winterscape” cookie cards return this year in a box that fits neatly inside the small U.S. Postal Service fixed rate Priority Mail box as a nice way of sending holiday wishes plus a little something special to mail anywhere in the continental United States.

The box contains a variety of traditional spice cookies to be assembled into a holiday winter scene for a delicious edible display with gingerbread people and pets, cardamom trees and snowman that stand atop a Lebkuchen snow bank all made from authentic recipes passed to me through a long line of Alsatian bakers. The Lebkuchen is from a traditional recipe which, contrary to common belief, is not the same as gingerbread.  It’s more of a soft honey-nut-fruit bread fashioned into a cookie made with nine different spices the quantities of which are top secret as the tradition of any good German baker would maintain.

Holiday Pastries

Our Holiday pastry selection includes a buttery fruit stolen with a marzipan roll and a traditional brandied fruit cake.

Savories

The savory selection includes what I call “the Better Knysh” variety made with a healthy selection of fresh vegetables, onions, whole grains folded into the new potato or sweet potato filling encased in layers of pastry and baked to a golden brown.

Confections

I’m happy to offer a good variety of jams and jellies this year all made with locally cultivated fruit and a foraged fruit unique to the coastal area, from the Mid-Atlantic states  to as far north as Maine, found along the Jersey and Long Island shoreline called the “Beach Plum” that makes fantastic jams and jellies.  The unusual bumper crop this year produced so many of these little plums that I was able to make much more jam than usual.  I had the good fortune of locating a little known patch and picked every last available plum ripe for jam.

Our holiday items are available for sale through select shops and markets throughout New York City and state.

Wishing all a beautiful and delicious holiday season!
